Following is a list of scheduled events for our Bloomsday 2007 celebration. All events will take place on June 15, 2006 (yes, the 15th, not the 16th!) from 12:00-2:30pm at the UCSD Faculty Club. For more information, please Contact Us.
Lunch and program: 12:00-2:00pm
Readings: 2:30-until we are tired of reading!
Cost: $25.00
Bloomsday lunch and wine
will be served (this is included in the $25.00 cost of the event).
Listen to a short talk by
Professor Bonnie Scott (SDSU), a member of the International Joyce Committee,
about the Joyce Family Trust and what the International Joyce Committee
really does at its meetings.
Listen to a short talk by Professor Elizabeth Yoder (UCSD) about her Bloomsday excursions in Dublin and Trieste, including a "walk through Ulysses" and highlights from James Joyce: Triestine Itineraries by Renzo Crivelli.
Listen or participate (or
both) in live readings of Ulysses -
bring a favorite passage to read or pick one from our list of famous passages.
Students from Professor Michael Davidson's Ulysses
class (at UCSD) will
be featured during our live reading time.
If available, we will try to view part of a file recently added to the Geisel Library titled, Joyce to the World.
Please feel free to wear an appropriate costume to our event - dressing up as a character from Ulysses or wearing Edwardian garb is a Bloomsday tradition.
Listen to Irish music, perhaps a few recordings of James Joyce himself singing and join us for a group sing-a-long of the traditional tune "Love's Old Sweet Song" to close the celebration.
If you would like to attend, please call or email Natalie Svistoonoff (858-534-0876 or nsvistoonoff@ucsd.edu) at the UCSD Faculty Club by Wednesday, June 13th, so that you are assured of a seat and have a meal. Space for lunch is limited to 75. Payment of $25.00 (cash, check or credit card) must be received by June 13th.
Times and activities are still subject to change - please confirm times with UCSD Faculty Club when calling to RSVP.
